FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)

How to use a cross line laser level

So you’re purchasing your very first laser level, and you’re ready to do your most accurate work ever. But how do you use the laser level properly? Here’s how.

If you’ve purchased a self levelling laser, you can simply unlock it, place it on a flat surface and wait a minute for the device to find its level. Make your marks with pencil or tape on the work surface, and turn off the laser to prolong the battery life.

If your device is not self levelling, consult the instructions and follow the levelling procedure.

The lock/unlock function on laser levels locks or unlocks an internal pendulum inside the device which calibrates the laser.

How accurate is a laser level?

Just like any other tool, you’ll be relying on your laser level to perform when you need it, and that means you need precision. So, just how accurate is a laser level?

Most devices come with a measurement tolerance of around ±6mm over 10 metres, all the way up to ±1mm for the most accurate devices.

The more expensive models typically have stricter measurement tolerances over greater distances, which makes them better suited to big jobs where measurements are taken at range.

The top of the line models also come with brilliant bright green laser beams which are easily seen in most conditions.
