Essential tools for your workshop or garage

Whether you run a shop or you’re always in the garage at home, there’s a few essential tools you’ll need to make vehicle maintenance easy.

First is a trolley jack and some axle stands. Whenever you’re working under a vehicle it’s important to keep it safely elevated with purpose built jack stands.

You should also keep sets of wrenches, sockets, hex/allen keys, pliers and screwdrivers in a variety of sizes as you’ll use these constantly whenever you’re working on a vehicle.

Make sure you check out our range of tool storage & organisation options for trolleys, cabinets and chests that keep your valuable tools secure.

How to choose the right torque wrench

A torque wrench is one of the mainstays of mechanical work. Knowing how to choose the right one will ensure you avoid costly mistakes that can be caused by improperly tensioned fasteners.

The most common sizes are ¼”, ⅜” and ½”. The larger the wrench, the bigger the drive the wrench can accept and the more leverage you can apply.

A ¼” drive will work for small applications up to around 20 Nm, while larger drives can be used for applications of 1000 Nm or even more, but aren’t suited to fine adjustments on small fasteners.

Digital torque wrenches are popular for their versatility and ease of use, just punch in the required torque and let the tool do the work.

We’ve got Milwaukee and Warren & Brown digital torque wrenches available now.
