How does a water jetter work?

Water jetters use petrol power to pump water through a flexible hose, with a specially designed nozzle that pulls the hose through the pipe and uses water pressure flow to clean the interior walls. They are used by industrial and commercial plumbers to unclog drain lines that are blocked by grease, sand, sludge, or other materials.

Different types and sizes of nozzle should be used for different blockages. For example, general debris removal requires a low pressure, high flow nozzle to push material down the pipe. For tougher blockages like grease, a penetrating nozzle with higher pressure may be required. 

A high pressure jetter like the Ridgid KJ-5000 produces 5075PSI of actual working pressure, and its highly flexible hose can be used to unclog lines between 50-250mm in diameter. 

For small pipes, a compact model like the AB Pumps Aston 13HP is ideal. With its small nozzle diameter, it can fit in blocked sinks and household drains, but it still packs 4000PSI of working pressure to remove stubborn blockages.

The drain snake is a smaller tool that is often used by residential plumbers to clear blocked lines.
