When to use a vacuum vs. a dust extractor

Modern vacuums and dust extractors share a lot of features, but there are still different strengths and weaknesses for both that make them better suited to some tasks than others.

A dust extractor is usually quieter and has better filtration, so it’s best for hooking up to tools like a drop saw to stop debris and saw dust from getting into the air where people will breathe it in.

A vacuum has better suction power and in the case of a wet and dry vac is able to collect water. A vacuum is the best choice for clean up and is generally only a temporary or backup solution as a dust extractor.
